Urchin Web Analytics Urchin is a log-based traffic analyzer provided by Google. Urchin 5 analyzes traffic for one or more websites and provides accurate and easy-to-understand reports on your visitors and where they come from, how they use your site, what converts them into customers, and much more. In 2006 Google purchased URCHIN and has since offered a free service called Google Analytics. This service is based on the URCHIN software. Google Analytics requires you to insert JavaScript code into each one of your website pages that are to be tracked. The major downfall for remotely hosted stats applications is reduced load times each time a page is loaded. If you have content behind a security firewall or on an intranet or internal network that prevents you from using the Google Analytics service, Urchin 5 software is for you. Urchin is installed and managed on your own server. This allows for reporting on traffic inside firewall-protected networks.
